Breck School – We Care Club

Published: November 17th, 2013 by Kim Anderson

Thank you to a group of young people who are in the “We Care Program” at the Breck School. Kim Shafer who is the program director of the We Care program invited Blair’s Tree of Hope to come and pick up bracelet Kits that these young children put together for the kids at the Minneapolis Children’s and U of MN Amplatz Children’s Hospitals. When Kim Anderson went to pick up the kits she was able to share with the young children what their kits would mean to the children who are in the hospital. This program teaches the young children about giving to others. They understand our mission of H.O.P.E. Thank you Kim Shafer and your students in the program.

Thanksgiving to warm your Bellies and your Hearts

Published: November 10th, 2013 by Kim Anderson

Blair’s Tree of Hope is preparing to serve their 7th Thanksgiving dinner to the families, doctors, nurses and staff of University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital.

The non-profit is inspired by experience. Minnetonka residents, Tom and Kim Anderson, are the founders of Blair’s Tree of Hope. They understand the feeling of spending Thanksgiving in the hospital. Blair was hospitalized over Thanksgiving before passing in March of 2007.

“It was a difficult time for our family and it certainly didn’t feel like Thanksgiving. Many families eat their Thanksgiving dinner out of a vending machine. We simply wanted to give back, to share a little bit of a ‘holiday environment’ with the very people that helped us when we were there with Blair. We also wanted to bring Thanksgiving to the families that otherwise couldn’t celebrate the way they traditionally would. At such a difficult and touchy time, it’s nice to have a feeling of home and of family.”

The doctors, nurses and staff at University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital work hard to make their patients and families comfortable. Blair’s Tree of Hope includes providers and staff in the celebration to say thank you for their time, positive energy, and service.

“We are so excited to be offering our 7th annual Thanksgiving dinner at University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital says Kim Anderson of Blair’s Tree of Hope. “We couldn’t do this without the wonderful volunteers and sponsors that help us make this all possible. Jim Wagner of Wagner’s Restaurant in Brooklyn Center has catered this event the past six years (Jim had a Bone Marrow Transplant several years ago and is giving back) Deb Wingert, and Tug and Brynn Peterson along with Blair’s Tree of Hope board members who have given so much of their time to make sure this event goes without a hitch each and every year.”

Thanksgiving Dinner will be served on Thursday, November 28, 2013.

Thank you to our CONTRIBUTORS and to all of the wonderful volunteers who come to help us serve this meal.
