Our daughter Blair spent several of them there and it was heartbreaking to watch. Blair’s Tree of Hope received 200 candy filled Eco Eggs from this great company. When I contacted Eco Eggs about their wonderful product, they immediately asked if they could donate to us to take to the hospitals. We will be putting together baskets to deliver to the Minneapolis Children’s and U of M Amplatz Children’s Hospitals. It is companies and people like Eco Eggs that make these types of activities possible for BTOH, the hospitals, and the families. Thank you to Karen, Christine, and Pam from Eco Eggs. We were able to help 96 families directly who were referred to us by the social workers in the hospitals. On Thanksgiving we were able to serve dinner at the U of M Amplatz Hospital to over 200 patients, family members, and hospital staff. Every other week we delivered snacks, toiletries, and magazines to either Minneapolis Children’s Hospital or U of M Amplatz Hospital. Each month we held a crafting event at the U of M Amplatz Hospital. We facilitated the donation of many blankets, diapers, scrapbooking materials, and pillows to Children’s Hospital. Along with those donations, we also donated “care” baskets, which included soft pillow cases to the patients and families on the BMT floor at the U of M Amplatz Hospital. In September we held our 4th annual Kickball Tournament where we had a Bone Marrow Drive which resulted in 3 matches! We also sold many of our 2011 Calendars at the tournament, which showcased some amazing kids throughout an entertaining circus and carnival theme.

Currently, we are working on our 1st Annual BTOH 5k Run/Walk. More information on this event can be found here on our website under the events column.

We personally would like to thank each and every volunteer who has donated his or her time, products, and/or money to assist our cause. Without each of you we could not have achieved our goals and our mission.

We now officially have a date and place set for our first annual Blair’s Tree of Hope 5k Run/Walk! We hope you can join us for this wonderful event. Breakfast and lunch will be available both pre- and post- race (cash donations are appreciated). All participants will receive a race T-shirt, Bib number, and goodie bag with coupons and freebies. Parking is free as well as park admission. All proceeds go to benefit the families of terminally ill children that we strive to help every day.

This includes but is not limited to aniversary cards, birthday cards, other holiday cards, and all season cards. Many of these families are unable to leave the hospital to buy cards to send to loved ones. Please consider helping make their lives a little easier.

We are also accepting donations of postage stamps and envelopes for families to mail their cards. Most of these families are putting all their resources towards their child’s medical care and do not have the funds to mail these cards.

Minnetonka Couple Honors Daughter’s Memory through Nonprofit for Cancer Patients

A couple from Minnetonka is honoring their daughter’s memory by helping other families with kids who have cancer.

Tom and Kim Anderson startes Blair’s Tree of Hope, “a non profit that delivers comfort items to families whose kids have cancer. Tom, who has an extensive photography background, takes family photos which in some cases, capture final moments.

This year, the Anderson’s are helping more than forty families across Minnesota. They say their inspiration is their daughter Blair, who died of leukemia in 2007 at age 16.
